Development and Validation of an Incompressible Navier-Stokes Solver – Part 1 Permalink
Objectives
- Develop an incompressible Navier-Stokes solver using a fractional-step method and finite difference discretization to simulate viscous fluid flows.
- Validate the solver by simulating lid-driven cavity flow and comparing velocity profiles with benchmark data to assess accuracy.
- Apply the solver to simulate flow over a square obstacle at different Reynolds numbers to analyze wake formation, vortex shedding, and flow separation.
- Evaluate the solver’s performance and numerical stability by testing different boundary conditions, time-stepping methods, and solver configurations.
Extending the Incompressible Solver for Flow Over a Square Geometry – Part 2 Permalink
Introduction and Domain Setup
The incompressible Navier-Stokes solver is extended to simulate flow over a square cylinder. The computational domain is \(3 \times 1\), discretized with a \(301 \times 101\) grid. The square obstacle, located from \(x = 0.5\) to \(x = 0.7\), \(y = 0.4\) to \(y = 0.6\), is embedded within the domain.
